Thales UK has successfully conducted the first live firing of its new remotely operated Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM) launcher, demonstrating a capability designed to provide military forces with greater flexibility in deploying air-defence weapons across land and maritime platforms. The system allows the missile launcher to be operated remotely, potentially reducing the need to expose personnel directly to hostile environments while enabling units to deploy additional defensive firepower. During the demonstration, an LMM missile was launched from the company’s newly developed remote launcher in a live trial conducted during the week. The test also evaluated Thales UK’s ForceShield command-and-control system, which coordinated the engagement through its Agile C4I engagement control technology and multi-mission fire-control system. The demonstration brought together the launcher, missile and command-and-control components to assess their ability to support coordinated weapon engagements. The capability is intended to offer armed forces a flexible approach to deploying missile-based air defence, particularly where remotely operated systems can improve operational safety and support distributed force protection. The ability to move the launcher between land and maritime platforms could also provide additional options for military units operating across different environments.
