Kopin has secured a $21.5-million follow-on contract to provide thermal imaging assemblies for a portable US military weapon system, reinforcing the company’s growing role in advanced battlefield vision technologies. The agreement covers production of ruggedized custom eyepiece assemblies incorporating Kopin’s proprietary microdisplays, optics, drive electronics, and protective housing systems. Designed for detachable and man-portable thermal weapon platforms, the systems enable troops to detect, identify, and engage targets during both day and night operations under harsh combat conditions. The company emphasized that the contract strengthens domestic US defense supply chains by reducing dependence on foreign-made optical and imaging components. Kopin has significantly expanded its defense portfolio over recent years, delivering more than 400,000 military vision systems across multiple programs. Recent awards include contracts for next-generation drone goggle optics, helmet-mounted display systems for European military helicopters, and ultra-bright MicroLED augmented reality displays for US Army soldiers. These developments position Kopin as a key supplier in the rapidly evolving military electro-optics and soldier modernization sector.
