The U.S. Navy has launched a $29.9 million initiative to develop SONGBOW, one of the most advanced shipboard laser weapon systems ever conceived. This high-powered directed energy system is designed to neutralize emerging threats such as drone swarms, cruise missiles, and hypersonic glide vehicles with light-speed precision.
Central to the project is a 400-kilowatt laser composed of multiple 50-kilowatt modules merged into a single, highly focused beam—offering a dramatic upgrade over current naval laser technologies.
