Estonian defense firm Milrem Robotics has successfully integrated a Ukrainian-developed BURIA remote weapon station onto its THeMIS unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). The system, equipped with a 40mm automatic grenade launcher, can strike targets at distances up to 1,100 meters, offering precise firepower while keeping operators safely away from the frontline. The integration was demonstrated in Ukraine during live-fire exercises under battlefield conditions, where the THeMIS showcased strong stability, target-tracking accuracy, and overall combat effectiveness.
According to BURIA’s manufacturer, Frontline, the remote weapon station engaged targets over one kilometer away during the trials. Weighing 47 kilograms, the turret is fitted with automated guidance and fire-control features that allow rapid and accurate responses. It has been in operational service with the Ukrainian military since January 2025 and has already entered serial production.
The THeMIS platform itself has been widely used by Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, undertaking missions such as casualty evacuation and route clearance. Capable of reaching speeds of 50 kilometers per hour and operating for up to eight hours, the UGV can be armed with various weapon systems, including machine guns and anti-tank missiles. Future trials will test the integrated BURIA system in multiple battlefield scenarios, with results expected to shape deployment plans and system enhancements.
