The Dutch Ministry of Defence has launched an ambitious modernization initiative centered on building a unified software ecosystem capable of linking unmanned aerial and ground platforms regardless of manufacturer. Working alongside Intelic, the Netherlands will develop a software-first command-and-control architecture powered by the NEXUS platform, allowing autonomous systems to communicate, coordinate, and execute missions through a common operational framework. Rather than adapting software after procurement, the project establishes interoperability from the outset, enabling faster integration of future technologies while reducing training complexity and lifecycle costs. The approach is expected to significantly improve operational flexibility and strengthen the country’s rapidly expanding autonomous defense capabilities.
