The United States Army has awarded General Atomics Aeronautical Systems a contract to upgrade the MQ-1C Gray Eagle ER with advanced electronic intelligence capabilities. The enhancement will enable detection and geolocation of enemy radar and missile systems, improving survivability in contested environments. Developed in collaboration with Sierra Nevada Corporation, the upgrade supports manned-unmanned teaming operations. Additional systems include COMINT, SAR/MTI radar, and advanced communications, with future variants like Gray Eagle 25M under development.
