Saab has finalized a contract to deliver its Giraffe 4A radar system, along with support services, to an undisclosed Latin American nation. The deal is valued at around 550 million Swedish kronor ($58.5 million), marking the first time the land-based variant of the Giraffe 4A has been sold in the region.

Introduced in 2014, the Giraffe 4A is a multifunctional radar designed for air defense, surveillance, and military air traffic control. It can detect and track a wide spectrum of threats, including aircraft, drones, missiles, and artillery shells, at ranges of up to 400 kilometers.

The radar offers full 360-degree coverage with updates provided every second. When tasked with focusing on a specific threat direction, the system can refresh its data up to eight times per second, providing rapid situational awareness.

Highly mobile and transportable, the Giraffe 4A can be set up in less than 10 minutes by just two operators. It is compatible with common military transport aircraft such as the C-130 Hercules, A400M Atlas, and C-17 Globemaster III, ensuring quick deployment across operational theaters.
