BlackSea Technologies has unveiled its new Modular Attack Surface Craft (MASC), a family of unmanned surface vessels (USVs) tailored to the US Navy’s call for modular, multi-role platforms. The design marks a shift away from adapting commercial hulls for military purposes, offering instead a combat-focused vessel built from the ground up.
The MASC stands out for its ability to carry more than 67,000 pounds (28,122 kilograms) of payload, nearly twice that of comparable vessels in its class. This significant capacity allows it to support a wide array of mission packages, from strike and surveillance to logistics and electronic warfare.
In addition to payload capacity, the craft provides 900 square feet (84 square meters) of open deck space, enabling flexible integration of mission equipment. With 198 kilowatts of onboard electrical power, the MASC can support advanced sensors, directed-energy weapons, and other high-demand systems. The company emphasized that the vessel’s modularity will allow the Navy to adapt quickly to emerging operational needs.
