The US State Department has approved a significant foreign military sale to Kuwait, offering a $325 million support package for its fleet of M1A2 and M1A2K Abrams tanks. The package is meant to address both immediate readiness and long-term sustainment needs through advanced logistics, parts delivery, and program-level coordination.
The proposed deal includes a wide array of components such as transportable spare parts, technical data packages, ground support tools, depot maintenance kits, and contractor engineering support. It will also provide software updates, telemetry integration, and upgraded fire control interface compatibility between old and new tank models.
Under the agreement, General Dynamics Land Systems will carry out all required activities from its facilities in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and Anniston, Alabama. While no offset requirements are tied to the contract, the partnership reinforces ongoing military-to-military engagement and reflects the growing interoperability between US and Kuwaiti ground forces.
