The Philippines is planning to acquire more than 500 infantry fighting vehicles as part of a broader modernization effort aimed at improving troop protection, battlefield mobility, and operational effectiveness. Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. confirmed the potential acquisition while withholding additional details due to security considerations. The new vehicles are expected to reduce reliance on foot patrols and provide faster response capabilities across operational environments. The Philippine Armed Forces currently operate Sabrah light tanks, FV101 Scorpion vehicles, M113 armored platforms, Kia KM450 and K151 Raycolt tactical vehicles, along with various artillery, engineering, and combat support systems. The planned IFV acquisition follows several modernization initiatives, including potential naval cooperation with Japan, procurement of Bell 505 helicopters, expansion of the S-70i Black Hawk fleet, acquisition of South Korean warships, and deployment of BrahMos anti-ship missile systems.
