The Latvian Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Saab for the delivery of the RBS 70 NG short-range air defense system, part of efforts to strengthen national security amid growing regional tensions. The deal, worth 2.1 billion SEK (~$209 million), includes missiles, firing units, and training simulators, with delivery set from 2026 to 2030.
The RBS 70 NG operates using a laser-guided system offering high hit probability and resistance to electronic jamming, making it ideal for Baltic force survivability in contested airspace.
Through this agreement, Latvia is equipping itself with modern, mobile air defenses capable of countering drone incursions, rotary threats, and cruise missiles, while aligning with NATO operational standards.
