Saab has won a contract from BAE Systems Hägglunds to deliver its Universal Tank and Anti-Aircraft System (UTAAS) sight and fire-control solution for CV90 infantry fighting vehicles. The agreement, valued at approximately 314 million Swedish krona ($34 million), covers deliveries scheduled for 2029 and 2030, supporting ongoing CV90 fleet modernization programs.

The UTAAS fire-control system is already in service on CV90 platforms operated by Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Finland, and the Netherlands, and has also been selected by Denmark, Estonia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia for newly acquired or upgraded vehicles. Its widespread adoption highlights the system’s role as a standardized fire-control solution across multiple European armored fleets.

Designed to deliver high first-round hit probability, UTAAS enables accurate engagement of armored vehicles, soft targets, helicopters, and low-flying aircraft. The system features a modular architecture, allowing operators to tailor performance levels and integrate future capability upgrades without major redesign.

UTAAS employs a shared aperture for all optical channels, ensuring long-term stability and eliminating the need for frequent realignment. Its independent line-of-sight allows continuous target tracking while the laser rangefinder measures distance and the fire-control computer automatically calculates ballistic corrections. The system supports engagement of aerial targets at ranges of up to 2,000 meters and provides weapon stabilization while the vehicle is moving at speeds of up to 30 km/h, enabling ground target engagement out to 5,000 meters.
