Teledyne FLIR has landed a five-year contract to supply its Black Hornet 4 Personal Reconnaissance Systems to the US Army.
These nano-unmanned aerial systems are being acquired under the Soldier Borne Sensor program to boost situational awareness for troops using hand-launched drones.
The initial order, valued at $25 million, covers the drones, controllers, spare parts, and training sessions.
If all contract options are exercised, Teledyne FLIR could earn up to $91 million over the agreement’s duration.
Production will take place at the company’s facility in Norway, with first deliveries starting in September 2024.
The Black Hornet 4 is designed to enhance battlefield awareness while keeping soldiers safer during reconnaissance missions.
