Sweden has signed a long-term defense agreement with Germany’s Dynamit Nobel Defence to procure the SKORPION2 vehicle-mounted mine-laying system. This system significantly enhances Sweden’s ability to rapidly deploy anti-tank minefields in defensive operations. SKORPION2 is designed as a modular and highly mobile system that can be mounted on wheeled, tracked, or unmanned platforms. It allows armed forces to quickly create large-scale mine barriers intended to slow down or redirect advancing armored units. The system is capable of deploying hundreds of mines within a short timeframe, often under 10 minutes, making it highly effective in fast-moving combat scenarios. It uses advanced Next Generation AT2+ mines, which feature programmable detonation settings, digital control systems, and improved armor penetration capabilities. These mines are designed to engage modern armored vehicles across a wide impact area and are resistant to clearance attempts. The system also improves interoperability among NATO and EU forces, as similar systems are being adopted by allied nations such as Latvia and Denmark.
