With growing demand for flexible unmanned systems, the U.S. Department of Defense has kicked off Project G.I., an initiative to accelerate the fielding of drones suited for today’s tactical environment. The project is centered on small and medium UAS that can be swiftly adapted and scaled.

The department is seeking ready-to-use solutions that don’t require long development timelines. Soldiers will have a greater role in guiding requirements and shaping final designs. Companies interested in competing must submit their systems by December 2025, and $20 million will be awarded to the top three entries selected for production.
