Hanwha Aerospace and Estonia-based Milrem Robotics have partnered to pursue Romania’s unmanned ground vehicle procurement program through a collaborative industrial framework emphasizing local production and integration. The proposed solution combines Hanwha’s Arion-SMET logistics platform and GRUNT 6×6 unmanned vehicle with Milrem’s hybrid-powered THeMIS tracked UGV, already operational in multiple military programs. Ahead of the Bucharest defense exhibition, the companies conducted a live manned-unmanned teaming demonstration involving reconnaissance, battlefield resupply, casualty evacuation, and drone-supported situational awareness under simulated electronic warfare conditions. The initiative supports Romania’s requirement for domestic industrial participation while reflecting Hanwha’s broader strategy of expanding its defense footprint across Europe through artillery, naval, and autonomous systems partnerships.
