Canadian drone developers are seeking opportunities to conduct testing outside the country because federal regulations restrict their ability to evaluate whether unmanned aircraft can withstand radio-frequency jamming. The limitation stems from Canada’s Radiocommunication Act, which prohibits the installation, use, possession, manufacture, import or sale of radio-signal jammers. The legislation does provide exemptions for the military and its suppliers. However, private companies face more limited opportunities to expose their systems to electronic-warfare conditions during domestic testing.Ontario-based Sentinel R&D is among the companies affected by this situation, limiting its ability to test drone resilience against electronic warfare systems within Canada.
