Marking a major step for Indian private-sector defense innovation, Sharang Shakti, a Gurugram-based deep-tech firm, has unveiled vajR—a reusable, AI-driven, hard-kill drone interceptor capable of autonomously engaging and destroying hostile UAVs in real-time. The system is a pioneering effort within India’s growing defense ecosystem, offering a kinetic alternative to traditional electronic warfare-based counter-drone solutions.

In a security climate where drone threats are increasingly frequent and sophisticated, vajR stands out for its indigenous design, high-speed interception capabilities, and smart targeting features. Unlike soft-kill systems that jam or spoof enemy drones, vajR is built to physically intercept and neutralize threats—a method especially crucial in signal-contested or latency-sensitive environments.

The system operates from a fully autonomous launch hangar, taking in targeting data from external sensors (radar or optical), before locking on to targets mid-air using onboard neural networks and vision systems. The UAV then executes a direct-impact kill maneuver, effectively eliminating its target without the need for external control.

By offering real-time, autonomous kinetic defense, vajR positions itself as a next-gen solution for high-risk border zones and critical infrastructure protection.
