General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has announced a partnership with Saab to develop an Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) capability for its MQ-9B series of Remotely Piloted Aircraft. This includes the SkyGuardian®, SeaGuardian®, the UK’s Protector, and the upcoming MQ-9B STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) variant currently under development. GA-ASI aims to conduct AEW flights on the MQ-9B by 2026.
The collaboration will integrate Saab’s advanced AEW sensors with the MQ-9B, known as the world’s longest-range and most enduring unmanned aircraft system (UAS). Whether operating over sea or land, this AEW solution will deliver affordable air dominance compared to traditional platforms.
