Japan and India have initiated collaboration on next-generation unmanned aircraft systems capable of autonomous decision-making even in disconnected or jammed environments. The partnership is being led by Tokyo-based Digital Media Professionals (DMP), which will provide its advanced Di1 edge AI chip. The processor integrates CPU, memory, and AI acceleration into a compact single-chip architecture optimized for onboard drone computing. Designed for low-power, high-efficiency operations, the chip can simultaneously process up to four camera feeds, enabling 360-degree situational awareness and real-time target analysis. The initiative reflects growing focus on AI-enabled autonomous ISR platforms capable of operating independently in contested battlefields where communication links may be disrupted by electronic warfare.
