Lockheed Martin has been awarded a substantial $999 million contract from the US Department of Defense to advance the production and long-term support of two key missile systems: the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) and the Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM). The agreement encompasses comprehensive upgrades, integration efforts, manufacturing processes, and logistical support for all configurations of the missiles currently deployed within the US Air Force.

This project will be executed in Orlando, Florida, with final completion anticipated by July 17, 2030. The JASSM is an air-launched, precision-guided cruise missile designed for long-range engagements. Equipped with a 450-kilogram (1,000-pound) penetrating warhead, it is optimized to strike both fixed and mobile targets from a distance exceeding 500 nautical miles (approximately 575 miles or 925 kilometers).

Compatible with a wide range of aircraft—including the F-15E, F-16, F/A-18, and F-35—the JASSM offers significant operational flexibility. The latest AGM-158B-2 variant includes enhancements such as an upgraded missile control unit and a cutting-edge GPS Anti-Jam Receiver, ensuring resilience in contested environments. These improvements are part of an ongoing strategy to modernize the system through both hardware and software updates.
