The US Missile Defense Agency has awarded Lockheed Martin a $407-million contract modification to advance development of Guam’s integrated missile defense architecture. The project focuses on engineering, testing, and certification of air and missile defense systems intended to protect critical military infrastructure on the island. The contract raises the total program value to approximately $1.94 billion, with work continuing through 2029 in Guam and New Jersey. Guam’s defensive architecture combines Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense, THAAD, and Patriot PAC-3 systems into a layered network integrating sensors, radars, launchers, and command-and-control systems. The effort reflects increasing US concern over China’s expanding ballistic, cruise missile, and hypersonic capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region.
