The US Department of Defense has selected Leidos to supply up to 3,000 low-cost containerized cruise missiles as part of the broader Arsenal of Freedom initiative aimed at expanding rapidly deployable strike capabilities. The company’s Low-Cost Containerized Munition system builds upon its AGM-190A Small Cruise Missile program but introduces a larger design with increased fuel capacity for extended range operations. Development and production activities will take place in Alabama and Tennessee, with production expected to begin in 2027 following full testing and validation. The initiative is intended to create scalable and affordable alternatives to traditional cruise missiles through modular design and commercial-style manufacturing. The broader Arsenal of Freedom program seeks to procure more than 10,000 container-launched missiles across multiple contractors, significantly expanding US strike capacity through low-cost mass production.
