Israel’s Missile Defense Organization and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems have delivered the first Tamir interceptors for the US Marine Corps’ Medium-Range Intercept Capability (MRIC) program. The system integrates Iron Dome technology into a mobile air defense architecture tailored for US Marine expeditionary operations. MRIC is designed to counter cruise missiles, rockets, artillery shells, mortars, and drones using Tamir interceptors paired with AN/TPS-80 radars and advanced command-and-control systems. Each launcher can carry up to 20 interceptors equipped with electro-optical sensors, proximity-fused warheads, and two-way data links for dynamic targeting updates. The program restores medium-range air defense capability to the Marines for the first time since the retirement of the HAWK system and supports future deployment across Marine Air Wings by 2028.
