The US State Department has approved major defense sales totaling nearly $5 billion, including Patriot missile systems for Qatar and precision-guided weapons for Israel. The $4 billion Patriot package is aimed at strengthening Qatar’s air and missile defense capabilities against evolving regional threats, while the nearly $1 billion deal for Israel enhances its precision strike capabilities. These approvals were formally notified to Congress and are aligned with US foreign policy and national security objectives, particularly in the context of ongoing instability and conflict in the Middle East. The deals underscore Washington’s continued commitment to supporting key regional allies with advanced defense technologies.
