India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is undertaking maintenance and modernization efforts for the Prithvi-II ballistic missile system to extend its operational life. The program includes a three-year maintenance contract and targeted upgrades to improve reliability, safety, and compatibility with modern command infrastructure. Enhancements are expected in guidance systems, propulsion components, and system integration. Despite the transition toward advanced solid-fuel missile systems, Prithvi-II continues to play a vital role in India’s strategic deterrence framework.
