The US Army has awarded Raytheon a $904.6 million contract for low-rate initial production of the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS). The agreement includes five radar systems, six spares, and comprehensive support elements such as software, documentation, and lifecycle services. This contract is part of a broader procurement framework valued at approximately $5.3 billion. LTAMDS is designed to replace legacy Patriot radar systems, offering full 360-degree coverage and the capability to track multiple high-speed threats simultaneously, including targets traveling at Mach 5. Production will take place in Massachusetts, with completion expected by 2031, reflecting growing global demand for advanced, networked air defense sensors.
