Turkey’s FNSS is developing the İ-ZAHA, a modular unmanned amphibious vehicle intended to reduce personnel exposure during dangerous coastal assault operations. The system combines land mobility with waterborne movement in an unmanned configuration.The vehicle has an approximate mass of 8 tons and is capable of reaching speeds of up to 7 knots while operating in water. Once ashore, it can travel at up to 70 kilometers per hour.Its modular design is central to the concept. The vehicle can be adapted for 10 different operational roles through interchangeable mission payloads. These modules are designed to be replaced in the field in approximately 40 minutes.Rapid reconfiguration could allow operators to change the vehicle’s role as mission requirements evolve. Instead of relying on separate platforms for individual tasks, the same basic vehicle could potentially support several types of operations.The unmanned architecture is intended to remove personnel from the vehicle during high-risk phases of amphibious operations. This could allow the platform to perform selected reconnaissance, support, or tactical tasks in areas where sending crewed vehicles would present greater risk.The İ-ZAHA reflects a broader shift toward autonomous and remotely operated military vehicles. Amphibious environments are particularly demanding because platforms must transition between land and water while operating under potentially hostile conditions.By combining amphibious mobility, modular payloads, and unmanned operation, FNSS is seeking to create a flexible platform capable of supporting different expeditionary missions.
