The US State Department has approved a $150-million foreign military sale of Bell 505 Jet Ranger X helicopters to the Philippines, aimed at strengthening Manila’s rotary-wing training and operational capabilities. The package includes 22 Bell 505 aircraft, Veris flight simulators, spares, sustainment equipment, logistics support, training programs, and infrastructure for two operating bases. The agreement also covers maintenance and technical training for Filipino personnel, supported by in-country representatives and a three-year management review program. Washington stated that the procurement reinforces defense cooperation with the Philippines, a key strategic partner in Southeast Asia, while improving pilot readiness and enabling smoother transition pathways to advanced military helicopters. The Bell 505 Jet Ranger X, powered by a Safran Arrius 2R turboshaft engine, offers multi-role flexibility for training, combat support, medical evacuation, and reconnaissance missions. With speeds up to 135 knots, endurance of four hours, and operational ceilings above 18,000 feet, the platform provides an efficient and modern rotary-wing capability for evolving regional security requirements.
