The Indian Air Force has partnered with GE Aerospace to establish a local maintenance facility for F404-IN20 engines powering Tejas aircraft. This initiative enhances domestic repair and overhaul capabilities, reducing dependence on foreign support. The engine features digital control systems and delivers high performance, enabling speeds up to Mach 1.8 and significant operational range. A broader agreement includes the supply of over 100 engines between 2027 and 2032, strengthening India’s aerospace self-reliance.
