Airbus Defence and Space has announced plans to establish a new A330 MRTT conversion facility in Seville, Spain, to meet growing international demand for military tanker aircraft. The new site will convert commercial A330 airliners into military tanker and transport platforms while also handling maintenance, repair, and upgrade work. Scheduled to open by 2027, the facility will increase Airbus’ annual conversion capacity from five to seven aircraft and is expected to create around 600 jobs directly and indirectly. The announcement follows Italy’s recent $1.6-billion order for six A330 MRTT aircraft to replace its aging Boeing KC-767 fleet.
