Godrej Aerospace has emerged as a leading contender for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) engine development program as GTRE expands industrial partnerships for the proposed Advanced High-Thrust Class Engine (AHTCE). The 110–120 kN turbofan engine, being planned in collaboration with France’s Safran, is intended to power the future AMCA Mk-2 stealth fighter and reduce India’s long-standing dependence on imported fighter engines. Under the Development-cum-Production Partner framework, Godrej Aerospace is being considered due to its growing expertise in aero-engine manufacturing, precision engineering, and participation in the Kaveri engine program. The company is expanding its aerospace manufacturing facility in Maharashtra while leveraging experience gained through partnerships with Boeing, Airbus, GE Aerospace, and Rolls-Royce. The AHTCE program will require mastery of advanced propulsion technologies including single-crystal turbine blades, high-temperature materials, advanced cooling systems, and precision integration processes. Success in the program would mark a transformative milestone for India’s indigenous aerospace propulsion ecosystem and long-term fifth-generation combat aviation ambitions.
