The United Kingdom has strengthened its commitment to future combat aviation by approving a major funding package for BAE Systems to continue the development of advanced technologies supporting the Future Combat Air System (FCAS). The investment will accelerate research into artificial intelligence, digital engineering, advanced software development, secure mission networks, smart manufacturing, simulation environments, and systems integration technologies that form the foundation of future sixth-generation fighter aircraft. Working alongside Team Tempest partners Leonardo UK, Rolls-Royce, and MBDA UK, the program will refine digital design methodologies, open-system architectures, model-based engineering, and virtual testing capabilities that reduce development risks while improving platform performance. Supported by an extensive industrial and academic network, the initiative strengthens the UK’s defense innovation ecosystem and contributes directly to the multinational Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), ensuring long-term technological competitiveness in advanced military aviation.
