Poland has begun receiving its first F-35 stealth fighter jets under a $4.6-billion agreement signed with the United States in 2020. The delivery comes as Warsaw continues strengthening its defenses amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and growing NATO security concerns in Eastern Europe. Poland plans to acquire 32 fifth-generation F-35 aircraft by 2029 as part of a wider military modernization effort that includes major purchases from the US and South Korea. The announcement coincided with US President Donald Trump’s pledge to deploy 5,000 additional American troops to Poland, reinforcing NATO’s eastern flank.
