Turkey’s state-owned shipbuilding company ASFAT has won contracts to construct the nation’s first domestically developed air defense destroyer, the TF-2000, as well as four additional offshore patrol vessels. The TF-2000 will be assembled in approximately 60 modular blocks, with an anticipated completion date set for 2030. Designed for sustained naval operations, the destroyer measures 149 meters (489 feet) in length, has a beam of 21 meters (69 feet), and includes a landing pad capable of accommodating a 15-ton (33,069-pound) class helicopter.

Engineered to function effectively in harsh maritime conditions with waves reaching up to 4 meters (13 feet), the TF-2000 boasts a 45-day autonomy without replenishment and can remain deployed for up to 180 days without shore support. The ship is designed for over 40 years of service life. Its armament suite includes a vertical launching system, a point defense missile system, a 127-millimeter naval gun, a close-in weapon system (CIWS), 25-millimeter stabilized naval guns, and torpedo launchers.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the TF-2000 features phased array and low-probability-of-intercept radars, an electro-optical director, laser warning systems, and both bow-mounted and low-frequency active sonars. Powered by a combined diesel and gas propulsion system, it can achieve speeds of up to 26 knots (48 km/h or 30 mph). Beyond air defense, the vessel will fulfill multiple roles including anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, electronic warfare, counter-insurgency, special operations support, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
