Taiwan plans to manufacture more than 1,200 Hai Chien II (Sea Sword II) surface-to-air missiles as part of a broader effort to modernize naval air-defense capabilities. Designed for deployment across frigates, corvettes, and amphibious assault ships, the missile offers a range of approximately 50 kilometers and speeds reaching Mach 4. Integrated with indigenous vertical launch systems, Sea Sword II provides 360-degree defensive coverage against aircraft, drones, and incoming threats. The large-scale procurement reflects Taiwan’s strategy of standardizing naval weapons while enhancing fleet survivability and operational readiness.
