Sweden has selected France’s Naval Group to supply four new frigates for the Swedish Navy in a major international defense-industrial agreement. The decision followed evaluations of competing offers from the UK and Spain before Sweden chose the French proposal due to its rapid delivery timeline and proven air defense capabilities. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2030, with each vessel estimated to cost over 10 billion kronor depending on final equipment configurations. The new frigates will significantly strengthen Sweden’s naval capabilities amid increasing security concerns in the Baltic region and Northern Europe. The deal also marks a major success for France’s Naval Group after facing competition from other European shipbuilders in recent naval procurement programs.
