Navantia’s agreement with Turkey’s Naval Shipyards General Directorate to support the TCG Anadolu highlights the importance of lifecycle maintenance in modern naval operations. The three-year contract, extendable by another three, includes maintenance, repair, technical support, and training services. The TCG Anadolu, based on the Juan Carlos I design, was constructed with significant input from Navantia and integrates key systems such as diesel generators and platform control systems. The agreement ensures continued operational readiness through a flexible support model tailored to evolving mission requirements. The vessel itself represents a shift in naval strategy, incorporating capabilities for unmanned aviation alongside traditional amphibious operations. Integration of TB3 drones from Baykar and development of the Kızılelma unmanned combat aircraft by Turkish Aerospace Industries demonstrate a move toward drone-centric naval operations. This evolution enhances the ship’s versatility, enabling it to function as both an amphibious assault platform and a drone carrier. The partnership underscores the growing importance of hybrid naval capabilities and sustained technical support in maintaining complex defense systems.
