Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has delivered India’s first production-grade wire-guided heavyweight torpedo to NSTL, marking a significant milestone in indigenous naval weapons development. The system, developed in collaboration with NSTL, features a fiber-optic wire guidance system combined with active-passive acoustic homing, enabling precise underwater target tracking. Designed for both operational and combat scenarios, this torpedo significantly enhances the Indian Navy’s anti-submarine warfare capability. Its advanced guidance ensures improved accuracy and control during engagement. This achievement places India among a small group of nations capable of producing sophisticated heavyweight torpedoes, strengthening self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative in underwater defence systems.
