The US Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a not-to-exceed $2.3-billion undefinitized contract modification supporting the Virginia-class Block VI submarine program. The agreement funds long-lead materials procurement and early manufacturing activities tied to pre-construction requirements for future submarines. Work will be carried out across multiple US industrial sites through September 2035. The Virginia-class remains the cornerstone of the Navy’s nuclear-powered fast attack submarine fleet, replacing aging Los Angeles-class boats while supporting missions including anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, strike operations, and special forces deployment. Block VI introduces enhancements in stealth performance, sonar technology, propulsion efficiency, and seabed warfare capabilities. The program also continues integration of the Virginia Payload Module, significantly increasing weapons capacity and long-range strike flexibility for future undersea operations.
