The United States Department of State has approved a $11.9 billion sale of Aegis Combat System components for Germany’s Type 127 frigates. The package includes AN/SPY-6 AESA radars, MK 41 vertical launch systems, and SM-2/SM-6 interceptor missiles, enabling multi-layered air and missile defense. Developed by Lockheed Martin, Aegis integrates detection, tracking, and engagement into a unified system capable of handling over 100 targets simultaneously. This significantly enhances Germany’s ability to counter ballistic and hypersonic threats. → The deal marks a major upgrade in Europe’s naval air defense capabilities.
