The Indian Coast Guard has commissioned ICGS Akshay, an indigenous Fast Patrol Vessel built by Goa Shipyard Limited under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. The vessel represents India’s growing capability in domestic shipbuilding and strengthens maritime security operations along the country’s coastline. Designed for high-speed missions, ICGS Akshay will support coastal surveillance, maritime law enforcement, search and rescue operations, environmental protection, and emergency assistance missions. The vessel enhances the Coast Guard’s ability to respond quickly to maritime threats and humanitarian challenges. The induction of ICGS Akshay is part of India’s broader fleet modernisation programme aimed at improving maritime safety and protecting national interests across coastal regions and the exclusive economic zone.
