The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) has officially launched its first Victory-class Multi-Role Combat Vessel (MRCV) at ST Engineering’s Benoi Shipyard, marking a major step in the country’s naval modernization program. Named RSS Victory (88), the vessel is the first of six advanced warships being built to replace the aging Victory-class missile corvettes.
Following its launch, the RSS Victory will undergo outfitting, systems integration, and sea trials before it enters active service. Meanwhile, its crew has begun operational training to prepare for the ship’s complex missions. Despite being a successor class, the new MRCVs will retain the historic names and pennant numbers of the original corvettes to honor their legacy within the Singapore Navy.
Awarded in March 2023, the construction contract tasks ST Engineering with delivering six MRCVs—Victory (88), Valour (89), Vigilance (90), Valiant (91), Vigour (92), and Vengeance (93). Developed collaboratively by the Defence Technology Community, including DSTA, DSO National Laboratories, ST Engineering, and other partners, the MRCV represents Singapore’s largest and most complex warship to date.
Measuring 150 meters in length, with a 21-meter beam and 8,000-ton displacement, the MRCV features frigate-level combat capabilities. It can operate for more than 21 days, achieve speeds above 22 knots, and has an operational range exceeding 7,000 nautical miles. Equipped with a DSTA-designed combat management system, Thales radars, Safran electro-optics, and weapons including Aster and Mica VL missiles and the STRALES 76mm gun, the ship integrates advanced automation for a crew of under 100. Its modular design allows flexible mission reconfiguration, supporting uncrewed systems, humanitarian operations, and future high-power technologies.
