The US State Department has authorized two potential Foreign Military Sales to India totaling approximately $92.8 million. The packages include Javelin anti-tank missiles and Excalibur precision artillery rounds, along with associated equipment and support. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the approvals aim to enhance India’s defense readiness and reinforce strategic ties between Washington and New Delhi.

The first sale, estimated at $45.7 million, includes one fly-to-buy FGM-148 Javelin missile, 100 Javelin rounds, and 25 lightweight command launch units (CLU), including Block 1 variants. The deal also covers basic CLU trainers, simulation rounds, battery coolant units, and other training and logistics support. The Javelin system provides dismounted troops with a fire-and-forget anti-armor capability effective from 65 meters to 4 kilometers.

The second case, valued at $47.1 million, consists of up to 216 M982A1 Excalibur 155 mm guided projectiles, fire control systems, integration kits, primers, propellant charges, and related support services. The Excalibur artillery round, guided by GPS and inertial navigation, delivers high-precision long-range strikes with an accuracy of within 2 meters CEP.

Developed by the RTX/Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture, the Javelin’s CLU provides visibility even in degraded conditions and can be mounted on unmanned ground vehicles for remote engagements. Paired with Excalibur’s precision strike capability, the approved sales significantly enhance India’s ability to counter armored threats and conduct long-range precision engagements.
