MBDA has entered low-rate production of the SPEAR 3 mini cruise missile after successful testing. Designed as a network-enabled precision weapon, SPEAR 3 allows aircraft to engage fixed and mobile targets from stand-off distances exceeding 100 kilometers. The missile features turbojet propulsion, two-way datalink communication, dual-mode seeker technology, and a programmable multi-effect warhead. Initially developed for the F-35B, the weapon is being expanded for integration with additional aircraft and unmanned platforms. Future variants include SPEAR Glide, SPEAR EW, and AI-enabled cooperative engagement capabilities using MBDA’s Orchestrike technology.
