UK-based Babcock International and Turkey’s Aselsan have agreed to jointly examine solutions to support the Royal Air Force’s future electronic warfare (EW) training requirements.

The collaboration will explore a potential Surface Electronic Warfare Threat training system under the RAF’s Next Generation Operational Training programme, aimed at modernising how UK aircrew prepare for contested airspace operations.

The initiative seeks to expose crews to advanced air defence and EW threats through realistic simulation, reducing reliance on live exercises as adversaries deploy increasingly sophisticated systems.

The companies will assess whether a joint solution could replicate modern Integrated Air Defence Systems, including radar and surface-to-air missile threats, using scalable and reconfigurable threat simulations.

Babcock will contribute its experience in military training delivery and operational support for UK forces, while Aselsan brings its electronic warfare and defence systems expertise. No timelines, funding details, or system configurations have been announced, and any future capability will be subject to UK Ministry of Defence requirements and approvals.
