Northrop Grumman has delivered the 70th E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft to the US Navy, highlighting the continued expansion of the Navy’s airborne early warning and battle management fleet. Developed to replace the older E-1 Tracer platform, the E-2D entered operational service in 2014 and has since become a critical command-and-control asset for carrier strike groups. Equipped with advanced radar, electronic warfare systems, and integrated communications suites, the aircraft provides 360-degree surveillance and real-time battlefield awareness across air, land, and maritime domains. Powered by twin turboprop engines, the E-2D supports long-range operations and interoperability with allied forces. The platform continues to receive upgrades to address evolving mission requirements, with the US Navy planning to operate more than 80 aircraft beyond 2040.
