Argentina has signed a letter of acceptance with the United States covering the planned acquisition of 235 Stryker 8×8 armored vehicles for the Argentine Army. The agreement represents a significant move toward modernizing the country’s mechanized ground forces.Argentina’s Defence Minister Lt. Gen. Carlos Presti and US Ambassador Peter Lamelas formalized the agreement under US Foreign Military Sales and Excess Defense Articles mechanisms.The planned fleet will include several Stryker variants, including the M1256 infantry carrier, M1251A1 command post, M1131A1 fire support, and M1133A1 medical evacuation configurations. These variants will provide different capabilities across Argentina’s mechanized formations.The acquisition follows an initial delivery of eight Stryker vehicles between late 2025 and early 2026. Argentina is reportedly preparing for an initial batch of 50 vehicles following technical inspections conducted at Fort Cavazos, Texas.The Stryker is a wheeled armored vehicle originally developed by General Dynamics for the US Army. The platform is approximately 7 meters long and weighs around 16,470 kilograms, with seating for up to nine personnel depending on configuration.Its protection includes ceramic armor designed to defend against certain heavy machine-gun threats, while selected variants can feature a V-shaped hull structure to improve resistance against mines and explosive hazards.Weapon configurations vary according to mission. Available systems can include 12.7mm machine guns, 30mm chain guns, 40mm automatic grenade launchers, 105mm gun systems, and 7.62mm machine guns.The vehicle is powered by a 350-horsepower Caterpillar C7 turbodiesel engine. It can reach speeds of approximately 97 kilometers per hour and has an operational range of around 499 kilometers, depending on configuration and operating conditions.
