Tata Advanced Systems Limited presented its locally manufactured WhAP 8×8 armoured fighting vehicle at the eighth Marrakech Air Show, conducted from 7–10 October. The display demonstrates TASL’s strategy of developing an international defence manufacturing presence and expanding exports from its Moroccan operations. Production takes place at the Berrechid complex, designed to serve as a regional centre for manufacturing, sourcing and exports. Alongside WhAP, the company exhibited its LAMV 4×4 protected vehicle, the 155 mm ATAGS artillery system and a range of unmanned technologies. The facility, covering 20,000 square metres, was inaugurated in September 2025 by Rajnath Singh and Moroccan defence administration minister Abdellatif Loudiyi. TASL reports that manufacturing commenced three months earlier than planned. Local production or assembly currently accounts for roughly one-third of WhAP components, with a target of 50% localisation. The Royal Moroccan Army received the initial vehicles in December 2025 under a contract covering 150 units over three years. TASL intends to manufacture approximately 400 platforms at Berrechid for Moroccan requirements and potential export customers. Developed jointly with DRDO, WhAP combines amphibious mobility and battlefield protection. It weighs between 25 and 26 tonnes, is powered by a 600 hp engine, achieves road speeds of up to 100 km/h and has a range of about 500 km. Its protection package can meet STANAG 4569 Level III or IV requirements, and the exhibited Moroccan model incorporates an Elbit Systems UT30MK2 remote turret. ATAGS, capable of firing at targets more than 40 km away, was another major attraction following India’s March 2025 contracts for 307 guns worth around ₹6,900 crore. TASL also displayed the approximately eight-tonne LAMV and Sky-I unmanned aircraft, which offers up to two hours of flight endurance. These programmes reflect the company’s international expansion strategy and the growing role of overseas facilities in Indian defence exports.
