Kongsberg has secured a contract with the Polish Armed Forces to supply PROTECTOR RS4 remote weapon stations for Poland’s K2 main battle tanks and two support vehicle variants. The systems will equip the K2 tank, armored recovery vehicle and combat engineering vehicle, allowing crews to operate mounted weapons from protected positions inside their vehicles. The agreement also covers initial spare parts, training and integrated product support services. Initial systems for vehicle integration are scheduled for delivery in spring 2027. Kongsberg has not disclosed the contract value or the number of units ordered. The deal comes as Poland expands its armored vehicle capabilities and develops domestic maintenance infrastructure for the K2 fleet. In September, Poland’s Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne signed an agreement with Hyundai Rotem to establish local maintenance and overhaul capabilities for the K2’s DV27K engines, including technology transfer. In August, Poland received another 28 K2 Black Panther tanks from South Korea, increasing its inventory to 208. Warsaw aims to build a fleet of 1,600 tanks by 2032, combining American M1 Abrams, South Korean K2 and German Leopard platforms. The expansion supports Poland’s efforts to strengthen deterrence against potential Russian aggression, with defense spending planned to reach 4.8% of economic output in 2027.
